A Local Council located in Melbourne’s Bayside suburbs is seeking an Asset Protection Officer to join their team on an immediate short-term contract (minimum 4 weeks). This role plays a key part in protecting Council’s civil infrastructure during building and construction works, ensuring compliance with legislation and safeguarding public assets.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with local government compliance, asset protection, or civil inspection experience who can confidently work in the field and engage with contractors, residents, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and final inspections for building works (Section 29A and Section 80 notices) to assess the condition of Council assets and determine security bonds.
  • Attend vehicle crossing and stormwater tapping inspections, providing advice and approvals to customers.
  • Monitor construction sites to ensure compliance with Council regulations relating to tree protection, fencing, traffic management, stormwater quality, permits, crossings, and public infrastructure.
  • Inspect works by service authorities and investigate any breaches of legislation or Council policy, issuing notices where required.
  • Ensure public safety during works impacting Council land.
  • Provide technical advice and maintain accurate records using Council systems (e.g. REX).
About You
  • Experience in asset protection, compliance, civil inspections, or local government infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of construction compliance and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and prepare clear reports.
