MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with a respected and long-standing organisation within the funeral services sector to recruit a Funeral Director Assistant . This is a meaningful, hands-on role suited to someone who is compassionate, reliable, and comfortable working in a sensitive environment supporting families during important moments in their lives.

This is a casual role with the opportunity to grow and progress within the business over time.

About the Role

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will support the delivery of professional funeral services across a range of settings. The role is varied and practical, requiring flexibility, emotional resilience, and a strong team mindset.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assisting with funeral services, including supporting services off and onsite.

  • Driving hearses and assisting with transfers, including after-hours, weekends, and on-call shifts

  • Performing checks and supporting care processes

  • Trimming coffins, preparing nameplates, and adding crosses or crucifixes in line with family requests

  • Providing occasional support in the on-site mortuary

  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure services run smoothly and respectfully

  • Maintaining compliance with health, safety, quality, and operational standards


Essential requirements:

  • Physically fit and able to safely lift, carry, and manoeuvre coffins (medical assessment required)

  • Comfortable working around deceased persons and in emotionally challenging environments

  • Strong communication skills with a calm, respectful, and empathetic approach
  • During training, availability for a minimum of 3 full days per week onsite is required
  • A reliable team player who works well in high-trust environments

  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence
  • Initial 4-day induction held in Holland Park (Brisbane)
  • Ongoing flexibility required for day shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call work
Desirable:
  • Exposure to funeral services or a strong willingness to learn (not essential)
