MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with a respected organisation within the funeral services industry to recruit a Funeral Director Assistant based in Cairns.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is compassionate, reliable, and looking to build a meaningful career supporting families during some of life’s most important moments. This is a diverse, hands-on role offering exposure across all areas of funeral operations, including funeral services, transfers, mortuary support, and cremation operations.

The Role

Working closely with an experienced and supportive team, you will play an important role in ensuring funeral services are delivered with professionalism, care, and respect.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Funeral Directors with the preparation and delivery of funeral services

  • Supporting families, visitors, and stakeholders with empathy and professionalism

  • Conducting transfers of deceased persons between hospitals, aged care facilities, private residences, and other locations

  • Assisting within the mortuary, including preparation, dressing, presentation, and respectful care of deceased persons

  • Supporting cremation operations and related activities as required

  • Preparing vehicles, coffins, nameplates, and service areas to a high standard

  • Assisting with day-to-day branch operations and service delivery

  • Participating in an on-call roster to support after-hours transfers and operational requirements

  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and workplace health and safety requirements

  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative, and respectful team culture

About You

Essential:

  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Compassionate, professional, and respectful approach when supporting grieving families

  • Comfortable working in an environment involving death, grief, and deceased persons

  • Comfortable assisting within a mortuary environment when required

  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks and meet the physical requirements of the role

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and instructions

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Background in hospitality, healthcare, community services, customer service, funeral services, or other people-focused industries

  • Experience working in sensitive or emotionally demanding environments

  • Availability to participate in an on-call roster
