As a Funeral Director Assistant , you will be part of a team that supports families during some of the most important and emotional moments of their lives.
You will assist with the care, preparation, and coordination of funerals, including transfers, viewings, and services. Your role is to ensure every step is carried out with dignity, respect, and compassion, helping to create a calm and supportive experience for grieving families.
This is meaningful, community-focused work that requires empathy, professionalism, and emotional resilience.
Working Hours & Flexibility
- Typical hours: 7:30am – 3:48pm
- Pay: $41.51 per hour + super
- Casual role with ad hoc shifts – work is not guaranteed each week
- Shifts may vary depending on demand (typically 1–5 days per week)
- Minimum shift length: 4 hours
- Primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work and overtime
- Opportunity to transition into full-time employment over time
- Comprehensive 6-week induction program.
- A combination of classroom and on-the-job training
- Prepare and respectfully organise order of service materials, ensuring accuracy and care
- Drive company vehicles (transfer vans and sedans) safely and professionally; valid full driver’s licence required.
- Prepare and clean company vehicles daily to a high standard
- Support families by respectfully transferring their loved ones from hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences into our clients' care
- Provide compassionate support during funeral services:
- Assist with the order of service
- Support and guide families and guests with care and respect
- Assist with setting up rooms for viewings and services
- Physically capable of manual handling tasks (including lifting up to 25kg)
