Mayday Recruitment is partnering with a respected organisation within the funeral services industry to recruit a Funeral Director Assistant & Mortuary Assistant based in Mackay.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is compassionate, reliable, and looking to build a meaningful career supporting families during some of life's most important moments. The role is primarily focused on Funeral Director Assistant duties, with exposure to mortuary operations as required, including assisting with the preparation, dressing, and care of deceased persons.

The Role

Working closely with an experienced and supportive team, you will assist with the delivery of professional funeral services while ensuring families receive exceptional care and support throughout their journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Funeral Directors with the preparation and delivery of funeral services
  • Supporting families, visitors, and stakeholders with empathy, professionalism, and respect
  • Assisting with the transfer and care of deceased persons
  • Assisting within the mortuary as required, including the preparation, dressing, presentation, and respectful care of deceased persons while maintaining the highest standards of dignity and professionalism
  • Providing support across funeral operations and day-to-day branch activities
  • Maintaining presentation standards across vehicles, facilities, and service areas
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative, and respectful team culture

About You

Essential:

  • Current unrestricted driver's licence
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Compassionate, professional, and respectful approach when dealing with grieving families
  • Comfortable working in an environment involving death, grief, and deceased persons
  • Comfortable working within a mortuary environment and assisting with deceased care when required
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks and meet the physical requirements of the role
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and instructions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Background in hospitality, healthcare, community services, customer service, funeral services or other people-focused industries
  • Experience working in sensitive or emotionally demanding environments
