MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with a respected organisation within the funeral and deathcare industry to recruit a Mortuary Assistant in Tullamarine, Melbourne.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who is reliable, compassionate and comfortable working within a mortuary environment, looking to build their experience within the deathcare industry. You’ll work closely with experienced Embalmers, providing practical support with the care, preparation and presentation of deceased persons.
The Role
Working as part of the mortuary team, you will provide hands-on support across day-to-day mortuary operations, ensuring every deceased person is treated with the highest level of care, dignity and respect.
Key responsibilities:
- Assisting with the preparation, dressing and presentation of deceased persons
- Retrieving and transferring deceased persons respectfully and professionally
- Supporting Embalmers and Student Embalmers with day-to-day mortuary duties
- Assisting with documentation, paperwork and administration associated with each funeral
- Preparing clothing and other requirements
- Maintaining a clean, organised and secure mortuary
- Completing manual handling and practical tasks
- Following company procedures and WHS requirements
- Supporting changing priorities and workloads
- Working independently while contributing positively to the wider team
About You
We’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable and willing to get stuck in. Previous mortuary experience is highly regarded but not essential — the right attitude and willingness to learn are key.
You will ideally have:
- A respectful, compassionate and professional approach
- Comfort working around deceased persons and within a mortuary environment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures
- Confidence with manual handling and practical tasks
- A genuine willingness to learn and develop
- Strong reliability and ability to work independently
- A team-first attitude
Backgrounds that may be well suited include: aged care, palliative care, nursing, dental nursing, pathology, medical environments, funeral/deathcare or other roles requiring care, discretion and sensitivity.
