An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced insurance Business Development Manager to join a growing and highly collaborative underwriting business in a national-facing role.

This position is ideal for a relationship-driven insurance professional who thrives on building strong broker partnerships, identifying growth opportunities, and being highly visible in the market.

This is a genuine “on the road” BDM role - suited to someone who enjoys national travel, attending industry events, and spending significant time meeting brokers face-to-face across Australia.

About the Role

Working closely with underwriting and leadership teams, you will be responsible for driving broker engagement, increasing market presence, and developing strategic growth opportunities across a national broker network.

This role is far more aligned to a traditional Business Development function than account servicing. You will be empowered to own relationships, create engagement strategies, and proactively identify opportunities to grow market share.

You will play a key role in strengthening broker partnerships, increasing visitation activity, and ensuring the business maintains a strong and visible presence across the Australian insurance market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers nationally
  • Travel extensively across Australia visiting broker offices and attending industry events
  • Identify new business opportunities through broker engagement, market intelligence and CRM insights
  • Develop structured broker engagement and follow-up strategies
  • Increase broker visitation activity and market visibility
  • Attend conferences, networking events and broker functions throughout the year
  • Present market feedback, trends and opportunities to internal stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with underwriting and marketing teams on growth initiatives
  • Manage and leverage CRM systems effectively, including HubSpot
  • Engage confidently with senior decision-makers including CEOs, broker principals and executive stakeholders
  • Maintain a highly proactive and relationship-led approach to business development
  • Build and execute strategic plans to drive sustainable portfolio growth
  • Maintain regular pipeline reporting and activity management
  • Represent the business professionally across all market interactions

Travel Expectations

This is a heavily travel-focused national role requiring regular interstate travel and broker engagement.

Approximate travel focus includes:

  • Significant time in Melbourne (largest broker network)
  • Regular travel to Brisbane and regional NSW
  • National conference and event attendance throughout the year
  • Frequent broker meetings, industry functions and relationship-building activities

All travel expenses are fully covered, including:

  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Vehicle and travel expenses

This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys being on the road, planning travel schedules, attending events, and building in-person broker relationships across the market.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Business Development Manager role within the insurance industry
  • Strong existing broker relationships and networks across Australia
  • Proven ability to generate and convert new business opportunities
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Confidence engaging senior executives and broker principals
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking capability
  • A highly proactive and self-driven approach
  • A willingness and genuine enthusiasm for frequent national travel

Why Apply?

  • Highly autonomous national role
  • Strong support from underwriting and leadership teams
  • Opportunity to leverage and grow existing broker networks
  • Significant market visibility and relationship exposure
  • Dynamic and collaborative team environment
  • Extensive travel and event exposure across the Australian insurance industry
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact on business growth strategy

If you are a relationship-driven insurance professional looking for a true national BDM opportunity with strong market exposure and autonomy, we would love to hear from you.
