An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced insurance Business Development Manager to join a growing and highly collaborative underwriting business in a national-facing role.
This position is ideal for a relationship-driven insurance professional who thrives on building strong broker partnerships, identifying growth opportunities, and being highly visible in the market.
This is a genuine “on the road” BDM role - suited to someone who enjoys national travel, attending industry events, and spending significant time meeting brokers face-to-face across Australia.
About the Role
Working closely with underwriting and leadership teams, you will be responsible for driving broker engagement, increasing market presence, and developing strategic growth opportunities across a national broker network.
This role is far more aligned to a traditional Business Development function than account servicing. You will be empowered to own relationships, create engagement strategies, and proactively identify opportunities to grow market share.
You will play a key role in strengthening broker partnerships, increasing visitation activity, and ensuring the business maintains a strong and visible presence across the Australian insurance market.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers nationally
- Travel extensively across Australia visiting broker offices and attending industry events
- Identify new business opportunities through broker engagement, market intelligence and CRM insights
- Develop structured broker engagement and follow-up strategies
- Increase broker visitation activity and market visibility
- Attend conferences, networking events and broker functions throughout the year
- Present market feedback, trends and opportunities to internal stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with underwriting and marketing teams on growth initiatives
- Manage and leverage CRM systems effectively, including HubSpot
- Engage confidently with senior decision-makers including CEOs, broker principals and executive stakeholders
- Maintain a highly proactive and relationship-led approach to business development
- Build and execute strategic plans to drive sustainable portfolio growth
- Maintain regular pipeline reporting and activity management
- Represent the business professionally across all market interactions
Travel Expectations
This is a heavily travel-focused national role requiring regular interstate travel and broker engagement.
Approximate travel focus includes:
- Significant time in Melbourne (largest broker network)
- Regular travel to Brisbane and regional NSW
- National conference and event attendance throughout the year
- Frequent broker meetings, industry functions and relationship-building activities
All travel expenses are fully covered, including:
- Flights
- Accommodation
- Vehicle and travel expenses
This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys being on the road, planning travel schedules, attending events, and building in-person broker relationships across the market.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Business Development Manager role within the insurance industry
- Strong existing broker relationships and networks across Australia
- Proven ability to generate and convert new business opportunities
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Confidence engaging senior executives and broker principals
- Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking capability
- A highly proactive and self-driven approach
- A willingness and genuine enthusiasm for frequent national travel
