MAYDAY Recruitment is currently seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Officer & Accounting Assistant to join a growing and fast-paced business within the healthcare recruitment sector.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working across both payroll and finance functions in a collaborative environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance and Payroll Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, financial administration, reporting, and compliance support.

Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-end payroll support, including timesheet validation and payroll processing
- Interpreting healthcare awards, overtime, and on-call calculations
- Maintaining payroll records and ensuring compliance with Fair Work legislation
- Processing invoices, reconciliations, and general bookkeeping tasks
- Supporting accounts payable and receivable functions
- Preparing reports, spreadsheets, and financial data analysis
- Assisting with budgeting, margin analysis, and finance administration
- Supporting month-end processes and ad hoc finance projects
- Collaborating with payroll, finance, compliance, and sales teams to ensure operational accuracy
- Providing support with urgent payroll or finance-related matters when required
About You:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll and/or accounting support
- Experience within healthcare recruitment, agency payroll, or shift-based industries highly regarded
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and award interpretation
- High attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills
- Confident using Excel, including pivot tables and reporting functions
- Experience with payroll/accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, KeyPay, QuickBooks, or similar
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Positive, adaptable, and solutions-focused mindset
