MAYDAY Recruitment is currently seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Officer & Accounting Assistant to join a growing and fast-paced business within the healthcare recruitment sector.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working across both payroll and finance functions in a collaborative environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance and Payroll Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, financial administration, reporting, and compliance support.
The role would suit someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys problem-solving, and has strong attention to detail, particularly within complex or award-based payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end payroll support, including timesheet validation and payroll processing
  • Interpreting healthcare awards, overtime, and on-call calculations
  • Maintaining payroll records and ensuring compliance with Fair Work legislation
  • Processing invoices, reconciliations, and general bookkeeping tasks
  • Supporting accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Preparing reports, spreadsheets, and financial data analysis
  • Assisting with budgeting, margin analysis, and finance administration
  • Supporting month-end processes and ad hoc finance projects
  • Collaborating with payroll, finance, compliance, and sales teams to ensure operational accuracy
  • Providing support with urgent payroll or finance-related matters when required

About You:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll and/or accounting support
  • Experience within healthcare recruitment, agency payroll, or shift-based industries highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and award interpretation
  • High attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Confident using Excel, including pivot tables and reporting functions
  • Experience with payroll/accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, KeyPay, QuickBooks, or similar
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive, adaptable, and solutions-focused mindset
