As a Property Claims Specialist, you will manage a portfolio of property claims from lodgement through to settlement, ensuring claims are handled in line with industry best practices and compliance requirements. You will play a key role in investigating claims, assessing coverage, establishing reserves, negotiating settlements, and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, customers, and stakeholders.

Main responsibilities include:
- Manage a portfolio of commercial property claims
- Analyse first reports to determine nature of loss, coverage, and scope of damage
- Conduct thorough investigations into claims and gather supporting documentation
- Assess claims in line with service standards, policy coverage, and industry regulations
- Establish accurate and timely reserves on claims
- Maintain proactive communication with brokers, customers, and stakeholders via phone and written correspondence
- Provide regular updates and respond to customer enquiries in a timely manner
- Accurately document all claim developments and maintain detailed file notes
- Exercise sound judgement in evaluating loss, liability, damage, and policy coverage
- Negotiate fair and reasonable settlements where appropriate
- Work closely with internal departments and external service providers to ensure efficient claim outcomes
- Monitor external vendor performance and manage associated costs
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and the General Insurance Code of Practice
- Assist with administrative tasks, audits, and other duties as required within the Claims team
The ideal candidate:
- Tertiary qualified
- ANZIIF qualifications preferred or currently studying towards completion
- 1–3 years’ experience within Commercial Property Claims or other first-party claims experience
- Strong understanding of insurance claims processes and industry legislation
- Knowledge of the Insurance Contracts Act and General Insurance Code of Practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities
- High attention to detail with strong organisational and time-management skills
- Customer-focused with a commitment to service excellence
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
