What’s in it for you?
  • Full-time permanent senior role based in Sydney (hybrid working model)

  • Salary ranging from $110,000 - $130,000 plus super, depending on experience
  • High-impact role with visibility across executive leadership and client stakeholders
  • Exposure to complex and high-value general insurance claims
  • Genuine influence over processes, workflows, and team culture
  • Strong focus on technical development and leadership growth
  • Collaborative, fast-moving environment where ideas are implemented quickly
  • Clear pathway into leadership as the team scales
Main responsibilities include:
  • Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value general insurance claims from FNOL through to resolution
  • Assess coverage, liability and quantum in line with policy wording, legislation and delegated authority
  • Set, monitor and review reserves across the lifecycle of claims
  • Manage litigation, large loss and complex claims matters where required
  • Engage and manage external providers including loss adjusters, investigators, repairers and legal partners
  • Ensure service provider performance aligns with SLAs, quality and cost expectations
  • Identify recovery, contribution and subrogation opportunities
  • Make or recommend settlement decisions within authority, escalating where appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior claims staff (where applicable)
  • Conduct file reviews and support capability uplift across the team
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of claims frameworks, processes and authority structures
  • Support reporting and insights on claims trends, performance and emerging risks
  • Build strong working relationships with MGA clients, capacity providers and key stakeholders
  • Act as an escalation point for complex, disputed or sensitive claims matters
  • Ensure compliance with AFSL obligations, the General Insurance Code of Practice, and ASIC RG 271 requirements
  • Manage Internal Dispute Resolution (IDR) matters and support AFCA escalations where needed
  • Maintain high standards of documentation, file integrity and regulatory compliance
  • Apply commercial thinking to improve claims outcomes and manage indemnity spend
The ideal candidate:
  • Strong experience in general insurance claims (typically 5–7+ years)
  • Proven ability to manage complex or high-value claims end-to-end
  • Experience in a senior, specialist or team leadership capacity within claims
  • Solid understanding of Australian claims regulation (AFSL, IDR/EDR, AFCA, Code of Practice)
  • Confident handling litigation, large loss or technically complex matters
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including client-facing experience
  • Ability to influence, guide and support others in a developing team environment
  • Commercially aware, with a focus on cost, outcomes and risk management
  • Comfortable working in a growing business where structure and processes are evolving.
