- Assess and make decisions on complex or non-standard risks outside standard underwriting limits
- Act as a key referral point, providing guidance on difficult or high-value cases
- Support underwriters with risk selection, pricing considerations and policy structuring
- Help maintain and improve underwriting guidelines and decision frameworks
- Ensure consistency and alignment with underwriting standards and risk appetite
- Work closely with claims, operations and other teams to improve the overall policy lifecycle
- Contribute to product improvements, including wording clarity and coverage enhancements
- Coach and mentor underwriters to strengthen technical capability and confidence
- Identify areas to streamline processes and improve efficiency
The ideal candidate:
- 8+ years’ experience in underwriting, including complex or non-standard risks, ideally within SME or Commercial Motor Underwriting
- Strong technical knowledge across underwriting, pricing and policy structures
- Experience supporting or mentoring other underwriters
- A solid understanding of underwriting governance and best practices
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders
- A structured and analytical approach to decision-making
- Experience working with underwriting guidelines, frameworks or referral processes
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Relevant insurance qualifications (preferred but not essential)
