MAYDAY Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a leading underwriting agency to recruit a Rural Underwriter to join their growing North Sydney team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business experiencing significant growth, where you'll have the autonomy to make underwriting decisions, develop your technical expertise and play a key role in supporting rural customers across Australia.

What's on offer?
  • $120K + Super + Bonus (up to 20%)
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Join a growing and innovative underwriting agency
  • Flat structure with direct access to experienced leaders
  • Long-term career development opportunities
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture
  • Regional travel and exposure to the broader rural insurance market

The Opportunity
As a Rural Underwriter, you'll be responsible for managing and underwriting a range of rural risks, including crop, livestock, farm and rural lifestyle exposures.
Working closely with customers and intermediaries, you'll deliver timely underwriting decisions while maintaining strong portfolio performance and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite rural risks within delegated authority
  • Assess and analyse new business, renewals and referrals
  • Structure competitive underwriting solutions
  • Deliver timely and solutions-focused service to customers and intermediaries
  • Balance risk selection, pricing and portfolio performance
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation
  • Support portfolio growth and renewal retention
  • Contribute market insights to product and process improvements
  • Build relationships across the rural insurance market, including occasional regional travel

About You
You'll bring:
  • 3–5 years' underwriting experience

  • Strong risk assessment and decision-making capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical, customer-focused approach
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment

Agricultural or rural insurance experience is highly regarded, however we would also welcome applications from strong SME or personal lines underwriters looking to expand their expertise into a specialist area.
